Sue Ziegler- Head

Sue is on her 21st year of coaching the Lincoln Lutheran Varsity Volleyball team. She coached from 1991-2005, and then again from 2013-present. She thought she would be retired since Kelli played college volleyball and they would go to almost all of her matches, but then after 7 years away, when asked her to come back, she enjoyed it too much to say no. Even though Minnesota did not offer volleyball until her Junior year in high school, she was a 3 sport athlete so she actually did all 3 her first year of college at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. She was a middle that first year, but then she stayed with just 2 sports, basketball and track.

Sue coaches for the love of the game and especially for the relationships built along the way with the players and coaches. she feels extremely blessed to be a part of an environment where she can help teach others be their best through goal setting, hard work, and determination. It is rewarding to see them improve on their individual skills as well as coaching teams that make their dreams become reality! Out of all the drills she has learned over the years she still likes wash drills the most. Her reasoning behind this is because you have to get 2-3 points in a row, which is very game like, because she always stresses for the team to do that in every match.

Her favorite coaching memory is winning the 2004 State Championship. It was a surreal feeling beating Columbus Scotus in 5 sets! Every point mattered, they had a 115 match win streak and the LL girls broke it! Plus an extra special moment for her was putting the gold medal on daughter Kelli (pictured above). To share that moment with her since she had been around the volleyball court since she could walk, and worked so hard to get to this point made it so much better. Her second favorite would be last year though, the 2017 3rd place match win at state was so huge for building momentum for this season.
