State volleyball: Buss, Warriors drive through first round, semifinal test awaits

Like the famous King and his Court, like LeBron and his NBA titles, Lincoln Lutheran’s Marriah Buss dominates high school volleyball at the Class C-1 level.

The 6-foot-1 junior led the state in kills as a sophomore and added to her state lead this year to help No. 2-ranked Lincoln Lutheran dispatch No. 7 Columbus Scotus 25-21, 25-11, 25-17 Thursday in the state tournament at Lincoln North Star.

State Volleyball: Buss, Warriors too much for Shamrocks

Lincoln Lutheran and junior Marriah Buss were too much for Scotus Central Catholic volleyball in Thursday’s opening round of the Class C-1 state tournament, sending the Shamrocks home for the season in a 25-21, 25-11, 25-17 final.

Division I volleyball commits playing in Nebraska prep volleyball state tournament

Nebraska is a known commodity when it comes to volleyball recruiting, and the state may produce more Division I volleyball talent than any other sport.

Starting Thursday, a staggering 27 players committed to play Division I volleyball will participate in this year’s state tournament:

No. 2 Lincoln Lutheran (32-3) vs. No. 7 Columbus Scotus (19-9), 3:30: The Warriors, back at state for the second straight year, are led by junior Marriah Buss (551 kills). The Shamrocks lead the state in championships with 15 but have not scored one since 2011.
