Sue Ziegler- Head

Sue is on her 21st year of coaching the Lincoln Lutheran Varsity Volleyball team. She coached from 1991-2005, and then again from 2013-present. She thought she would be retired since Kelli played college volleyball and they would go to almost all of her matches, but then after 7 years away, when asked her to come back, she enjoyed it too much to say no. Even though Minnesota did not offer volleyball until her Junior year in high school, she was a 3 sport athlete so she actually did all 3 her first year of college at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. She was a middle that first year, but then she stayed with just 2 sports, basketball and track.

Sue coaches for the love of the game and especially for the relationships built along the way with the players and coaches. she feels extremely blessed to be a part of an environment where she can help teach others be their best through goal setting, hard work, and determination. It is rewarding to see them improve on their individual skills as well as coaching teams that make their dreams become reality! Out of all the drills she has learned over the years she still likes wash drills the most. Her reasoning behind this is because you have to get 2-3 points in a row, which is very game like, because she always stresses for the team to do that in every match.

Her favorite coaching memory is winning the 2004 State Championship. It was a surreal feeling beating Columbus Scotus in 5 sets! Every point mattered, they had a 115 match win streak and the LL girls broke it! Plus an extra special moment for her was putting the gold medal on daughter Kelli (pictured above). To share that moment with her since she had been around the volleyball court since she could walk, and worked so hard to get to this point made it so much better. Her second favorite would be last year though, the 2017 3rd place match win at state was so huge for building momentum for this season.

Stacy Leimbach- Assistant

Stacy is a 10 year coach for Lincoln Lutheran Varsity Volleyball. She attended college at Concordia University in Seward, NE from 1992-1995. She decided to become a coach because it’s fun to watch athletes with God-given talents develop into great volleyball players.
She finds enjoyment in motivating and encouraging others to be the the best they can be!
She also loves the coaches she works with and looks forward to seeing them everyday.

Her favorite volleyball memory is when the team qualified for state last year. The pure excitement from the team was so much fun to watch and be apart of for her. A volleyball drill that she really likes is Vegas. Each team draws a card and has to score the number on their card before their opponent reaches the number they drew.

Kelli Megrue- Assistant

Kelli is a 5th year coach for the Lincoln Lutheran Varsity Volleyball team. She attended college at Concordia in Seward, NE her freshman/sophomore year from 2006-2008 and Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN for her junior/senior seasons from 2008-2010.

She has decided to become a coach because she has such a strong passion for the game. Growing up around the sport and having her mom as her coach has engraved a love for volleyball in her. After having her mom as her high school coach she decided that is what she wanted to do when she was older. She believes in her players and can see the talent they possess and wants to be able to push them to be the best that they can be. Kelli loves the team environment and the relationships built from coaching.

Kelli’s favorite coaching memory is the dance party in the locker room before the 3rd place match at State last year. It is this memory because the girls chose to have good attitudes and finish the season strong after dropping a heartbreaking match the night before. That takes courage and mental toughness. It was fun to see them compete and end on a high note!

In practice Kelli’s favorite drills to run are Syracuse and 3 C’s. She says that, “Syracuse is a fun competitive drill between positions. It’s great to see girls compete for winning their spot. 3 C’s is also a high level drill that combines communication, covering and celebration. The noise level in the gym during that one is awesome!”
